North Region Coaching Programme.. The First English Skeet Workshops.
The first training day in the North Region coaching programme got underway at
North of England Clay Target Centre on 11 June.
With financial support from CPSA HQ at Bisley, the programme offers extremely good value coaching in the English disciplines, with small groups of clients working in morning and afternoon sessions to refine their shooting techniques.
Groups of four worked with Senior Coach, Keith Stoker, who gave in depth feedback on routes for improvement. The developments in technique and indeed scores were very noticeable for both the morning and afternoon groups.
Three out of four clients in the morning session posted 25 straights in the final training round. No mean feat with a coach breathing down their necks all the time !!
During the lunch break, both groups had the opportunity to meet John Robinson, the top British Olympic Skeet shot who shared some of the secrets of competing at the highest international level. The presentation and subsequent question and answer session focused on
the basics of kit and equipment, followed by training regimes and the preparation and run up to the competition season.
Judging from the course feedback questionnaires, all the participants found the day extremely worthwhile.
There are already sufficient junior and senior participants for another English Skeet day to be scheduled, in the near future. And an English Sporting day is filling up.
Surprisingly, the response from the DTL community has been slower; possibly this publicity will encourage applicants !!
The workshops are targeted at B and A class shooters who wish to improve their club, county or region performance.
