NORTH REGIONAL SPORTING UPDATE

This year has probably been the best series of selection shoots we have ever had. On top of that we had one of the best turn outs, with many of the top shooters fighting for a place on the team, which makes it all worth while.
It all started back in March at Spennymoor & District. This time the weather was on our side, with top quality targets on offer. Only one person got in the ninety's that was Michael Pennington with a fantastic score of 94. Five clays in front of the second man Phil Rowbottom 89 with Glenn Hunt and Graham Stirzaker on 87.

Then come a new ground Westland's shooting ground just over the border near Gretna. A long way to go but for the ones that did and there was over one hundred, had a worth while trip. Westland's is the home of top colt shooters Bret and Danny Winstanley so we new that the targets were going to be tough and that's what we got. Kevin Mayor putting in a massive 94 to take high gun with Graham Stirzaker and Glenn Hunt behind on 90. Then a trio of 89s Mark Wild, Bret Winstanley and Paul Dowson.

June brought us to a much awaited shoot at Coniston shooting ground. This was their first ever registered 100 bird shoot and we took the opportunity to
give it the title of North of England champion. What a shoot they put on everybody went home with a smile on there faces. With something for the new comers and testing stands that separated the men from the boys. The winner was Yorkshire game keeper Kevin Jobling with his 91 the only 90+ score of the competition. Followed by his mate Mark Webster on 87
third was Adam Du-Rose on 85.

The last selection shoot was at North Wolds where Graham Stirzaker showed everybody who is the boss, winning by a massive 5 clays. Again the only man in
the 90s. Dave Carrie and Les Rushworth followed behind with a brace of 88s.
In all a fantastic set of selection shoots and the team that has emerged is equally as good. They will take some beating at the British.
