North Regional Skeet Diary December 2006

Northern Region Skeet Update by Chris Lancaster – December 2006

Sunday 10 December 2006

Oxton Shooting School

Another bright but very breezy day awaited a handful of Northern Region shooters at Oxton Shooting School. Robert Jones proving his metal and fairing the best of all the shooters shot a very solid 99. Well done Robert.

Sunday 17 December 2006

What a beautiful cold sunny day awaited the handful of Northern Region shooters making it down to Nottinghamshire this week-end. One of them, Derek Wilson, shooting the three grounds of Nottingham & District Gun Club, Oxton Shooting School and A614. Phew!

Nottingham & District Gun Club

James (Billy) Perry, not having shot registered skeet since the Belvoir Cup, also held at Notthingham, shot another ton which was one of two out the seven squads. Very Well done Billy – a joy to watch (although you did chip a high two!). Congratulations also to Derek Wilson for coming second to Billy shooting a solid 99 and Robert Jones a 98.

Oxton Shooting School

Derek Wilson zoomed the 300 yards to Oxton Shooting School to shoot again, this time shooting a 97 whilst Steve Leppington put in a good solid 99. Well done Steve.

A614

Derek and Steve went out again to see if the targets were any better at A614 than they were at Oxton! (an "in" joke). Derek shooting 98 and Steve 97. They were joined later by Robert Jones and Chris Lancaster who both put in 98. Well done to all.

Kibworth Shooting Ground

Steve Leppington made the trip down to Kibworth Shooting Ground and shot with Mickey Dore and Simon Hill. Well worth the effort as both Steve and Mickey put in another ton. Well done guys.

Sunday 24 December 2006

Oxton Shooting School/A614

A misty background for Reg Bates' excellent targets made ideal conditions, not wasted on the 100 broken by Robert Jones at Oxton and Steve Leppington at A614. Derek Wilson destroyed 98 at A614 and 97 at Oxton. Good solid stuff again from our shooters.

Top Twenty – How our Northern Region shooters finished in the rankings

Seniors

Gary Cooke came out on top flying the flag for the region coming 4th with an average of 98.5 increasing his last year's average of 97.7. Steve Leppington was joint 10th with a average of 98 which was bang on his average of last year. Robert Jones, whose class is Veterans not seniors was joint 15th in the seniors with an average of 97.7

Veterans

Robert Jones, who appeared on the front cover of January/February's Pull! (and also had a shooting profile in the same magazine), came 3rd in the Veterans with an average of 97.7 increasing last year's average of 96.4. Is this the first time we have had a Northern Region Skeet Shooter on the cover of Pull!?

Ladies

Chris Lancaster, despite being injured for much of the season, came in ranked 4th in the Ladies with an average of 94.2, just increasing her average from last year from 93.9.

Colts

Sam McGonigal headed up the Colts ranking with an average of 95.7. First time in the rankings so well done Sam.

So very well done to you all and to every success in the 2007 season.
